2004: Trail Heads

In June, 2004, work started to improve the trail heads leading away from our own property.

(19) ^ ^ ^ ^ This causeway (seen here under construction) is the eastern trail head for the Wetlands Trail. It is filled with rocks to allow water to seep through underneath in "wet years".

(20) ^ ^ ^ ^ The causeway is an extension of a new pathway being constructed along the inner boarder of our property.

(21) ^ ^ ^ ^ Another view. The Wetlands Trail heads west going past the wooden chair in the background.

(22) ^ ^ ^ ^ The rocks filling the causeway are covered with a layer of soil to bind the top surface together to stabilize it.

(23) ^ ^ ^ ^ The causeway ready for a final layer of wood chips.

(24) ^ ^ ^ ^ Finished with wood chips.

(25) ^ ^ ^ ^ This pathway runs along the back of our property past the apple and pear trees on the left.

(26) ^ ^ ^ ^ A branch to another pathway to be built later.

(27) ^ ^ ^ ^ An exit ramp heading towards the Marble Grove Table..

(28) ^ ^ ^ ^ Ready for a layer of wood chips.

(29) ^ ^ ^ ^ "Yes, we could do the wood chipping next, but I'd rather go for a walk."

(30) ^ ^ ^ ^ The wood chips in place (several dog walks later).

(31) ^ ^ ^ ^ Looking back from the new causeway (seen earlier).

(32) ^ ^ ^ ^ An 4-way intersection with a branch trail and an exit.

(33) ^ ^ ^ ^ Removing rocks blocking the route for the next section of pathway.

(33b) ^ ^ ^ ^ Work was interrupted by an early-season stow storm on October 27th, 2004.

(34) ^ ^ ^ ^ The new pathway running along the southern edge of our property. This route will eventually lead to the Wedding Bridge.

(35) ^ ^ ^ ^ Its now December, and there were icy frosts in the mornings.

(36) ^ ^ ^ ^ Steps leading down from the Snowflake House to the new pathways.

(37) ^ ^ ^ ^ An overview of the backyard and the new pathways under construction.

(38) ^ ^ ^ ^ Extending the pathway west.

(39) ^ ^ ^ ^ Heading west towards the creek that will eventually be spanned by the Wedding Bridge.

(40) ^ ^ ^ ^ Getting irregularly shaped rocks to fit together to make a border.

(41) ^ ^ ^ ^ I was considering putting a wooden bridge here, but it turned out to be easier to build this shallow causeway instead.

(42) ^ ^ ^ ^ Looking back towards the Snowflake House. The branch pathway going left in the middle ground (first bucket) heads to the wetlands.

(43) ^ ^ ^ ^ The path going up to the Snowflake driveway beside the house.

(44) ^ ^ ^ ^ Four days later it snowed (12/28/2004). The final layer of wood chips would have to wait.
